Q1. How long does it last once it's opened?
Because the tasting period will vary on storage conditions, please use it sooner before the flavor changes.
Q2. How should it stored?
- Before opening
Before opening, you can store our sauces for a long time;
however, even when unopened, the sauce will lose its flavor gradually.
Storing unopened packs in a cool and dark place is recommended for the best taste.
(The flavor won't change much when it's refrigerated.)
- After opening
Please keep it in a refrigerator after opening, as it's low sodium and preservative-free. Opened packages will lose their flavor, even when refrigerated for several months, so please check the flavor and use it soon after opening.
Q3. Can the sauce be used after the expiration date?
The expiration date on the package is an estimation of the freshness. The taste might change depending on how it's stored. We recommend not using the sauce after the expiration date since we would like you to enjoy the best flavors of our sauces.
Q4. Something like white colored mold is floating in my sauce - What is this?
This is a yeast which can grow even in high sodium solutions. It's not a food poisoning bacteria and is not a health hazard. Please remove the white yeast particles soon so as not to lose taste and flavor of the sauce.
How is yeast growth prevented?
Mold and yeast are microorganisms that have been traditionally used for fermentation of sake, miso, and soy sauce. Our products are heat-sterilized when cartoned to make them shelf stable at room temperatures. However, the sauces are low sodium and have no preservatives, so please keep it in a refrigerator after opening as yeast may develop once air contact is made with the sauce. Also, pouring our sauce into another container which is contaminated might cause yeast to grow. Please avoid storing our sauce in an unsterilized container.
Q5. If the sauce is leaking from the spout?
One of the causes for leaking is that the viscosity of the sauce is lowered when its temperature is raised. It will be improved if used at low temperature or stored in a refrigerator. Leaking also happens when the spout is wet and the sauce doesn`t pour well, or when the dried sauce sticks to the spout. In those cases, please wipe the spout with a clean cloth.
Q6. Small articles came out from Salad Soy.
This product contains many natural ingredients such as vegetable extracts, pepper, and chili sauce, which may settle in the carton. To prevent these vegetable components from solidifying, please shake Salad Soy with the cap well-closed before using.
Q7. Is the taste changed?
When producing our soy sauce, the same ingredients and measurements are used every day; however, different batches of soy, dried bonito and dried salmon flakes, and kelp may each have subtle differences in quality because they are natural ingredients. These may slightly influence the flavor of the sauce but won`t have any effect on the quality of the products. You might sense some subtle changes in different batches of sauce. Storing conditions will also infoluence the flavor, so please store in a cool and dark place, and keep the sauce refrigerated after opening.
Q8. Are amino acids harmful to my body?
There are about 500 kinds of amino acids found in the natural world, yet many people view amino acids as chemical seasonings which are harmful to our bodies. The amino acid compositions of protein for our body is only 20 kinds. One of them is glutamic acid, which is naturally present wheat and soybeans and is a ccmmon element of Japanese flavorings. Amino acids are naturally formed in the fermentation process of foods such as miso and soy sauce, as proteins in the soybeans and wheat are converted by the fermenting action of the mold. This glutamic acid improves the recovery from fatigue when your body has exercise, and it`s known as the most useful amino acid energy source. Some foods containing glutamic acid are soybeans, kelp, tomatoes, and wheat flour.
